5 Simple Self-Care Tips For Anyone on World Mental Health Day!
2020 has been manic, but don’t let it consume your mental health! For some it may have opened up a pandora box of mixed emotions such a anxiety, stress or even depression.
Mental health is nothing to be ashamed of but it is something to think about and take care/ be aware of, just as you would for your physical health. Just because you can't see it (eg. pain, hurt, anguish), like you would if you hurt yourself physically, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
It’s OKAY,
- if you desire to be alone
- If you are imperfect
- If you have some bad habits
- If you feel exhausted today
- If you struggle to stay positive
- If you are different from your friends
Today on World Mental Health day we look at these 5 simple Self-Care tips that would be useful for anyone:
-
Go off the grid. Disconnect from your smart phone or laptop and take a break from the constant emails, messaging and other interruptions. Spend some time out in the sun with someone face-to-face and get that Vitamin D from the sun, it makes a good mood elevator!
-
Take your time in the bath/shower. Lather soap on your body. Notice the way the water and foam feels on your skin. Appreciate every little part of you. Your neck, your hips, your curves. Show some devotion to yourself and while you’re at it, bring in your pleasure tool to make a magical self-love moment of it.
-
Care for others. Sometimes the best way to feel better is to get out of yourself and stop thinking about what's bothering you. Why not take a trip to the animal shelter and offer to volunteer your time to be with some furry friends?
-
Treat Yourself. Bake a whole cake for yourself because, why not? Your birthday isn’t the only day to treat your fabulous self! And a good tip is to have dark chocolate because it can help to release serotonin and relax the blood vessels of the cardiovascular system.
- Write down your thoughts. Sometimes speaking about how we feel can be difficult and daunting but that doesn’t warrant us to bottle up our emotions either. So write about upsetting experiences, journal your thoughts. It can help to reduce symptoms of depression and put your mind a little more at ease.
